Valentine's Day Blockade, Faslane

Monday 14th February 2000

(article from Faslane Fokus)

This one may seem like old news, but we can't resist one last gloat.......

400 people turned out at 6am in the pouring rain to shut down the base. They came from all corners of this island and from across the sea. They laughed in the rain, they smiled in their handcuffs, they sang in their cells....

Peace campers teamed up with the lovely Manchester EF! To block the A814 using two concrete Valentine cakes, decorated with live hippies and their lock-on clips. We would have preferred to leave the A814 free for non-base traffic and instead block the South gate road, but the polis had thoughtfully done this themselves. Bless you!

Certain "petty officers" sought to compensate for something-or-other by removing tarps placed over locked-on protesters. This failed to provoke a response (beyond laughter) from our peaceful tribe, so after four hours they brought in their forklift (wooo!).

Coppers then seized the protestors, whose arms were still locked-on deep inside the barrel, and trundled the whole caboodle to the pavement. This reckless manouvre prompted Bobbi's usual ranty bit at PC Bastard, which prompted Bastard to nick Bobbi. Plod were forced to release Lynn, however, when they realised they couldn't remember who'd nicked her. Excellent!

The rest of the day was spent running round and round a cell trying to get warm and dry, and yet again failing to get vegan cell food (this time they told us to "eat round the cheese"!!??) The corridor was filled with the quietly happy sound of peace women new and old getting aquainted.

Respect to those who built a heart-shaped lock-on for North Gate (known as the "Love Machine"), to those who travelled all night to be there, and to those who gave various kinds of support to the 189 arrestees.

THIS WAS THE BIGGEST DIRECT ACTION AT FASLANE FOR 15 YEARS
