History of faslania housing co-op

LAND CO-OPERATIVE AND THIRTY PEACES OF SILVER

faslania housing co-op began life late in 1998 as a dream of a Land Co-op; a joke to raise four million pounds in order for peace campers and supporters to become more pro-active. The Faslane Peace Camp Land Trust Bank Account was established and we began to look into the process of turning the dream into reality.

We discovered a mutual aid organisation that had been set up to help people on low incomes buy houses and get business loans. Radical Routes appealed to us because, first and foremost, it supports co-ops working for social change. After much heated discussion about joining the establishment, faslania housing co-operative became official in November 1999.

After another year of exploring funding possibilities and understanding more about legal minefields, we have decided to register Faslane Peace Camp Land Trust as a charity, with faslania being the initial project.

UPDATE - October 2003
This didn't happen. After September 11th 2001 priorities changed. The vision remains, but until such time as we enter into dialogue with Argyll and Bute Council and the Ministry of Defence, this project is on hold.
